I don't know who posts reviews here, because everyone I know who saw Club Dread loved it, though some conceeded that it didn't match Super Troopers. If you don't feel you identify with college kids, take this review with a grain of salt.
The plot is weak and Club Dread definitely won't be honored at Sundance, but if you're in the mood for The Maltese Falcon or Like Water For Chocolate and opt to see Club Dread, you have only yourself to blame for your disappointment.
The real issue is whether or not you can appreciate Super Troopers type humor with a college spring break emphasis. Oh, and whether you can stomach ridiculus, comical gore.
I find it odd that a movie that made an entire audience rip into laughter so frequently has recieved such negative reviews here. I won't make any inferences about the reviewers who were expecting something else and felt themselves to be above Club Dread's humor, but I will say that there is a empty space on my shelf between Magnolia and Clockwork Orange that anxiously awaits Club Dread's DVD release. |
