Okay, the movie is not badly made, but the real-life twist is ironic as can be.
The book was about big tobacco doing whatever it could to influence, manipulate and even flat-out buy verdicts. Why? They were willing to do anything to prevent a verdict that would, in a sense, PROVE that cigarettes caused cancer. Each of the big tobacco companies would contribute endless amounts of money to their legal funds to keep this lie going...
And now, here we have the Hollywood version of that book. And guess what? Isn't it ironic that News Corp., the company that owns 20th Century Fox, was somehow influenced to change the villains of the movie to the "evil" gun manufacturers?
Could it be that big tobacco, through its high-powered lobbying efforts (i.e. threatening to remove its subsidiary advertising from New Corp companies) influenced News Corp to change the story so that big tobacco would not look bad?
How Ironic.
Shame on 20th Century Fox. This book was an indictment of big tobacco, and now it's nothing more than a shell of a movie. |
