This whole Movie makes the concept of the Green
House Effect and its’ negative impact, look like a
bad Saturday AM Cartoon. In less than two hours
Mister Roland Emmerich and company has set the
cause for the reduction of fossil fuel usage back
one decade.
It is one thing to make a bad Movie on such a
Serious and potentially Civilization wrecking
phenomena as Global Warming. It is again quite
another, to make a mockery of it, by lacing your
bad movie with, not only unbelievable special
effects made in part from shredded diapers [how
appropriate!], but also very bad Acting, and what
seems like unintentional moments of comic relief.
Dennis Quaid doesn’t skip a beat, after running
from the Alamo and his portrayal of Sam Houston.
He just keeps right on playing Sam again, “the
day after” he leaves the Alamo. He is the same
tight lipped grumpy gruff SOB in this bit of Sci
Fi comedy that he was down in Texas.
Charlton Heston he is not!
As for Jake Gyllenhaal efforts and for that
matter, the entire cast, they complete a very
predictable and rather fragmented story.
The multiple sub plots do little to explain or
provide some sense of story telling to this frozen
work. The subplots merely add comic like
confusion to an already bungled attempt at story
telling.
In fact this Movie may have been saved by spending
a few more hours in the editing room ,cutting out
some of the needless dialogue and touchy feely
scenes.
Added to this mix is brief, one line clichés by
Actors thrown into this perfectly bad storm,
with probably the sole direction queue of…”look
freaked out and cold people…ya that’s it….that
should be enough…if not, the CGI effects will save
our Butts!”
In summary;
A- Character roles are never developed properly
B- Direction seems limited and very predictable
C- No time is allowed to fully understand or appreciate any of the overly abundant sub plots.
D- too many sub plots
E- This Movie does not let you fill in any of the
blanks with your own imagination. It is at times
preachy in its desire to explain all of the Plot
and Sub Plot details.
F- In general the cinematography and effects,
although unbelievable/phoney, are very good and
obviously very expensive.
Easter Egg[s]
1] Well well, everybody is a chargin down to good
ol Mexico, and unless I missed some of the films
logic here, not only are they able to finally
control and close off this freeway of cheap
labour, but Florida at the same relative latitude
is well,… ignored?!…or maybe I was either too
busy laughing or asleep during this part of the
Movie when Florida was mentioned…Ccchhhhaaaaaaaaa
2] The news chopper that was able to cruise around the Mega multi tornados never got a scratch! Gimme a break!
If this is the opener for the Summer Block Buster Season, then get out your Fishing Rod and Golf Clubs! |
