Critics have been panning The Butterfly Effect for nearly a week now and I feel that the viewers need to start chiming in with their opinions.
First off, the actors. Ashton Kutcher does a fantastic job in this, his first dramatic screen role. His only flaw is that everyone is so used to seeing him doing over the top comedy that some scenes of extreme drama had the audience laughing out loud. But I applaud him for attempting drama, it suits him well. As for the rest of the cast, both the adult versions and the child versions of them, excellent performances. I would especially like to point out that one of my favorite, least talked about in anything actors, Ethan Suplee (of American History X fame) did a fantastic job here as Thumper the goth roommate.
Overall I'd say that the film made me jump out of my pants a few times, made me think even more, and gave me an ending that almost guaranteed an "alternate ending" option on the DVD when it comes out.
So dont listen to the reviewers (you should never listen to the reviewers) and go pay your ten bucks to see The Butterfly Effect. becuase you going to that movie may have dire consequences on your future. (just kidding) |
