"The Butterfly Effect" is critically doomed for three reasons.
First: It stars Ashton Kutcher, who is hated by the movie critic demographic. They are so eager to knock him down that they miss the actual film.
Second: It is geared towards the fringes of society. As Evan pops around through nightmarish alternate realities, the one that scares him the most, is becoming a mainstream American frat boy. This movie is aimed at people who are a little left of center and a little disdainful of the masses.
Third: The people who didn't understand movies like "Memento" and "12 Monkies" are going to be equally confused by this film. Much of the negative criticism stems from critics innability to grasp the premise.
If you:
1 Don't hate Ashton.
2 Do hate frat boys,
3 Aren't an idiot.
Then you will like this movie. |
