Fact or Fiction: Let me start by saying that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is NOT true. For those who believe it to actually have happened in Texas are WRONG! The only character based on fact is Leatherface, while the rest of the Sawyer Family are complete fiction. Leatherface, like Norman Bates, is based on the murderer and grave robber Ed Gein, and nothing more. There were no 'Chainsaw Massacres' in Texas. Sorry.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre... ah, what a tale. This movie, along with Halloween and Excorcist, are what started up the NEW horror craze since the previous "Universal Monsters" and Hitchcock Era. Such movies like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street were made because of the previously stated "BIG THREE." So TCM is a classic horror film in its own right, and it is still known today.
Story: The story of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is original when compared to other slashers. I was always intrigued by TCM because some of the story is so believable. Leatherface is not an "unkillable" killer like Michael or Jason, which just makes it better and more realistic. And the weapon he uses is so relentless and heart pounding. Just the way it's done makes it seem like it could happen to anyone traveling through the country.
Acting: Not the best, but certainly not the worst. When compared to such recent movies like 'House of the Dead' and 'Freddy vs. Jason,' the acting is brilliant.
Overall Feel: The dark atmosphere and lighting made the movie memorable, and just the relentless sound of the chainsaw made it frightening. But still, it did slightly fall short of my own expectations. But seeing as how I'm not a huge fan of the original, I'd say that this is a worthy remake. |
