a masterpiece

This definitely isn't a run-of-the-mill thriller or action movie; instead, it shows the absurdity of evil, while at the same time (via some great acting by Brody) conveying both the primitive and the miraculous aspects of the human spirit.
The close-up scenes of hands playing the piano alone would make this a movie worth seeing, but its telling of the pianist's experiences in the Warsaw ghetto is uncompromisingly unsentimental, avoiding cliches in favor of stark honesty. |
