Let me preface this by saying that I have read the books and enjoyed the radio series. I even found the cheaply produced TV series somewhat entertaining. This movie was not even up to the standards of the TV series. While the visuals were ok, the direction was terrible. The acting was equally uninspired. Although some of Adams humorous dialog was present, its delivery was often unintelligible and was delivered with such poor comic timing that what cleverness was still present in the dumbed down script was rendered completely unfunny. I pity anyone watching this film that was not already familiar with material, as it would have been mostly incomprehensible. All the characters lacked charisma, and one is left not caring what happens to them. The special effects were poorly thought out and seemed to completely disregard Adams vision. All in all a poor effort. |
