Everyone asks me what is a good Science Fiction film. Well there a quite a few. Alien, Aliens, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Forbidden Planet... just to name a few. As far as modern classics few come to mind. A.I. off the top of my head was an instant classic for me, as was the Sci-Fi channels Dune movies. Solaris however reigns supreme to date for the 21st century. Everything about the movie from the opening shot until the very end had me intrigued. I am compelled to want to watch this movie over and over again. This is a modern Sci-Fi classic. Anyone looking for high paced action or a dumbed downed story need not apply. This is one for the thinkers out there who like a movie with substance and have a high appreciation for what a true Sci-Fi movie is supposed to be. Taking his cue from Stanley Kubrick the director certainly knows how to work with imagery and emotion here. The story is about regret. There is a deep sorry that resonates from the main character played magically by George Clooney. This is his best role to date by far. I am not going to go to much here into what transpires because I do not want to spoil it for anyone. However I own close to 400 DVDs and a 53 HDTV widescreen. More or less movies is my hobby. Take if from me if this is your hobby this is a movie to own in your collection. A must have for the real movie or Sci-Fi fan. Enjoy! |
