Brilliant, but misunderstood.

When 2001: A Space Oddysey first came out, many in the audience walked out, including some prominent actors. Stanley Kubrick would of course go down in history as one of the most brilliant directors of all time. I'm not saying that Soderberg is in the same category as Kubrick, but Soderberg has certainly made many excellent cutting-edge movies. Unfortunately, as the other reviews suggest, and the box office receipts would suggest, this movie was horribly misunderstood by the "MTV/Drive-through" American public. One of the main reasons was the presence of "James Cameron" as one of the producers, leading to an expectation that this movie would be another "Aliens", not the complete opposite. I can't wait for the DVD to come out, as I will definitely purchase it. Someday, this will be a collector's item. |
