I've had a subscription to Iron Man for ~18 years, so I was nervous about this movie. I had doubts about both Downey and Favreau, but I'll happily concede that they did a spectacular job considering the unique challenges that go with esoteric/fantastic story lines.
The movie is long and slows down a couple of time, and also leaves a few questions - but that's almost nitpicking when you consider how fun the movie is from start to finish with a great (starting to run out of adjectives) blend of humor and action. The evolution of the tech is a fun ride and not an afterthought. The characters outside of Terrance Howard are very well acted out, and the special effects don't take you out of the movie at all. It's freaky, but after you see the movie, you wouldn't be terribly surprised to see someone flying around in a shiny metal suit (like some of the characters in the movie probably should have been, but that's another minor, minor complaint)!
Bottom line it's aimed for general audiences and is one of the few times you will get your $$ worth in a high-priced theatre. |
