i hate child actors who over-act. it is to me the essence of bad acting. however in this film, shia laboeuf comes across as earnest, honest and innocent playing the main character of stanley yelnats in a film that i can only describe as one of the best of 2003.
Holes not only takes us on an adventure but drags us into a history mystery by intertwining 2 storylines simultaniously that finally come together at the end of the film. it is written by the same man who wrote the book on which it is based (louis sachar) so it is extremely close to the source material.
many adults, when playing villians in childrens films, tend to "silly" their performance. not the case here...you truly do fear Mr. Sir and when the warden decides to get rid of someone, you have no doubt that that person is GONE! sigorney weaver and jon voigt add a level of professionalism to the film which helps us believe everything we are seeing.
if you rent or buy this film, i promise you will not be disappointed. |
