Wonderful special effects combined with every tried and true horror film shock sequence keeps your attention. Eddie Murphy (Jim Evers) is good but Ramsley (Terence Stamp) the butler steals the show with his surprise apearances and droll responses to Eddie Murphy. Marsha Thomason as Eddie Murphy's wife Sara is enjoyable to watch but the chemistry between the Evers pales in comparison to the intenisty of the obsession Master Gracie (Nathaniel Parker) has for Elizabeth. The two kids (Marc Jefferies and Aree Davis) add some depth to the plot development and provide a respite from Eddie Murphy's real estate agent on the prowl character. The sceen where the daughter encounters some dead guys in the water is really creepy.
The end of the movie has the courtesy to resolve the plot without the hanging threat of a sequal. I enjoyed it but think once was enough at least until the DVD comes out |
