Well, if it's scenery you're looking for--fancy expensive sets, bright colors--then this movie is worth seeing. But if it's plot, humor, acting, etc, it's certainly not worth paying for. After seeing the premier last night, I was horribly dissappointed. And that's saying a lot, as I went in with already low expectations. Afterall, since when has a live-action remake of a normally-thirty-second story turned out as anything worth seeing? (Grinch, anyone?) The only positive thing that come out of my time at the movies was seeing the trailer for Peter Pan, which looks fantastic. But The CAT? Well, it was exactly what everyone feared--Austin Powers (again) in a cat suit. The Spy Who Meowed Me. I adored the first Austin, but please Mike, get some variety into your act. And some of the jokes were downright lewd. Considering that it is a children's flick (those of you doubting me need only watch the last few syrupy-sweet morality lesson minutes at the end: "You're great Conrad...", "No you're great Sally..." ::huggsies::), the profanity in the un-funny jokes was ridiculous. And not in a good way. Even the slapstick was stuck. When I thought I was the only one who wasn't enjoying it, I stopped and listened to the theatre full of children. And you couldn't hear a peep, other than some crying and worried moms shushing kids who figured it out when The CAT spelled s-h-!-t. Even if you loved "Dude Where's My Car" and "Mystery Men", you will still think this movie is awful. If you insist on seeing it, because you are a Suess fan, (first of all, there is no whismical Suessisms or rhyming, so you can forget that), please do yourself a favor and wait for the video. |
