Let me first start off by saying that nobody was more sick of hearing about Ben Affleck or Jennifer Lopez than I was. I reached a point where just hearing their names made my skin crawl. With that being said, I do like most of Kevin Smith's films so I decided this movie was worth a look.
This movie actually turned out to be pretty good and my guess is that it will really appeal to women or anyone with a small child. A cute storyline and good casting make this film moderately enjoyable even to a guy like me (single and no kids).
The acting from the main characters Affleck, Lopez and Liv Tyler is decent and George Carlin as Affleck's father is hilarious. Without question the true star of the film is Raquel Castro who plays Affleck's daughter. Her smile is adorable and she has miles and miles of personality as a Jersey Girl.
The story has no real surprises and is fairly predictable but for some reason I still enjoyed the film. There are a few laugh out loud moments and Castro is so undeniably cute that you can't help but smile as you watch.
A perfect movie to rent this winter as the over exposure of Affleck and Lopez continues to die down. One of Kevin Smith's most polished efforts as a director and a potential break out performance by Castro make this film worth a rental. |
