From Director Ridley Scott, yes the same man that gave us "Gladiator" and "Black Hawk Down," scores again with "Matchstick Men."
In "Matchstick Men," Nicholas Cage, the academy award winning actor, portrays a con-man with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).
Cage's character trusts no one except his partner in crime, Frank, played by the ever convincing Sam Rockwell, but he even keeps Frank at arm's length. Since Cage's character is addicted to sedatives, Roy, must seek pills from a psychiatrist when his own doctor is out of town. This will be more important later on, as this is the reason that Roy's 14-year-old daughter whom he never knew comes back into his life.
Alison Lohman does her job well puting the vitality and basic teenager daughter "quirks" into her character.
The only downside to "Matchstick Men" may be the plot. It drug on a little too long to get to the main focus and points of the movie.
Overall, Matchstick Men is an Oscar worthy movie but won't win any Oscars. If you see this film, you will love it. Guarenteed. |
