To tell you the truth, I was'nt expecting this movie to be that good, I like Nicholas Cage and Ridley Scott is a great director, but still I was afraid this movie might fall into the category of movies which look good on paper but have no real brilliance to them, needless to say I was wrong. Its good to see that there are people in Holywood who want to make a real movie rather than your typical formula movies. Nicholas Cage has probably earned himself another Oscar nomination playing the role of a obsessive compulsive con-man with facial ticks,(could be Tic douloureux), he is one actor who does not hesitate taking on challenging roles, although at times he seemed to be over the top but the character is such that its hard to keep it moderate and stay true to it, over-all he did a brilliant job, Sam Rockwell and Alison Lohman are also worth praising here. The movie is beautifull visually, the editing is crisp and clean, the soundtrack is fresh and the script is superb. Although at times the movie gets slow down when we see Nicholas Cage and Alison Lohman
bonding as father and daughter, but I guess it played out in the end. I cannot think of any other movies to compare, and this might be the best thing about the movie, it is original. Overall, its a great movie and I will recomend it to anyone who likes intelligent movies with good acting and direction. |
