Did critics watch the same movie I did?

Based on the critics' review, I really wasn't that excited to see Brother Bear. I thought the soundtrack was great, but not as good as Tarzan (Phil Collins contributed to both). However, after I saw the movie at its exclusive engagement at the Ziegfeld theatre in New York, I was pleasantly surprised. I really don't understand why the critics are being so harsh towards this film. Did they not find the personal goodies in the press pack that they wanted? I feel that sometimes critics are reading WAY too much into films-and (as once quoted in the NY Times) it's too bad this film does not have period costumes or a character that goes from being poor/drug addict/etc., because otherwise I'm sure critics would flip over it.
I enjoyed the storyline-and the moose are NOT the only thing funny in the film.
Based on recent box office hits, it doesn't seem like people are listening to critics anyways, so hopefully people will go see this movie. It's not going to change your entire outlook on life, but it will uplift you and make for a pleasant outing with your kids. |
