A depressing but dark look at life...

Ewan McGregor couldn't have acted better. You don't usually see him as a role like this, he doesn't look like the depressing type, but he pulls it off in the movie Young Adam about a selfish man, Joe, whose actions are very shocking and questionable, and the harder you look at them the more you realize "He could be us, he brings out the hidden and dark nature in us."

What the movie's point (as everyone says there isn't any) is about loneliness and how society comes to judgments so quickly, like a quick label. The story's are much more complicated than that. As the director says, "Joe is a man on the run from himself and from his conscience. He is rebellious, irresponsible and dangerous...grappling with himself about what to do. He's a character who is about as far from innocent as you can get, but he is also not guilty."

The ending is not happy, and Joe's problems have not been solved. This movie is the kind of movie you want to look close at in order to like and understand it. Overall, a must see for people who are not selective of their movies...
