IT'S AN ANTI-HERO MOVIE NOT SUPER HERO MOVIE

First, this graphic novel based movie is a graphic movie so leave the kids at home if you don’t want them see rape, large penis shot after large penis shot, and soft core porn. I understand now why it was not released as a summer blockbuster. And, I understand why there was little mention about the nudity in the promos.

A lot of reviews want to compare the movie against the graphic novel. However, like most of America, I never read it and I don't care. If I was concerned about the story, I would have just read the graphic novel. My review is focusing on the movie. I like going to the movies to escape the real world and this offered a world with a different time line that was both fascinating and refreshing.

The Story (no spoilers) -

If you're looking for the typical bubblegum super hero movie, this is not it. These "heroes" operate the dark gray area. It's a world unlike Superman's happy black and white world. If you like peaches and cream happy endings this is not the movie for you.

What I found interesting was the more realistic depiction of what the world would be like with Super Heroes. The movie knows full well that you cannot change human nature. Even the heroes can’t escape their nature. This is the most fascinating thing about the movie.

The Acting –

I don’t have much to say about it. The acting was neither great nor bad. In fact, I hardly noticed it all. This might be testament to good acting. I don't know.

None of the actors were buff or usually good looking; they looked like average Joes. I found them believable. I leave it at that.

The Direction/Visuals –

While long, the movie moved at a good even pace. With some money and a graphic novel as your story board, I would imagine the vision is pretty much laid out for you. At times, I felt like I was watching a made-for-tv sci-fi film, but with a big budget.

Overall –

I was happy with it and loved the new take on the hero genre. Will I see it at the theater again? No. Will I buy or rent the DVD to watch again? No and no. Should you see this in the theater? Yes, but leave the kids at home. Was it worth my money? Yes. Go see it.
