I have read the Watchmen numerous times and for the most part can definitely connect with the movie. For starters let me state something upon why the Black Freighter (kind of a side storyline from it all.) was missing from the action. For those who read the comic a first read the Black Freighter is something that is a filler of a comic. In fact, they have turned that into a straight to home DVD on March 24th so please don't blame a movie that's 2 hours and 41 mins alone to increase an extra 30 minutes for something not entirely important although entertaining.
Now on to the movie. There had to be cheesiness in the movie because in short most of the movie is serious and without a little fun into it then it makes the movie morbid. These acts include some few jokes along with a sex scene that for a good portion hits it spot on. I did enjoy the performances of all and even Adrian Veidt who stole the spotlight by being an actual intelligent bad guy. Most people will now look at the character Rorschach and pick up a copy of Watchmen just to read about either him or Dr. Manhatten. Manhatten by the way was as powerful and impressive as I can remember. Regardless that you see his genitalia how powerful do you seem when for most of the movie your naked and your still in awe by how incredible the man is?
The movie followed closely to the comic book with Manhatten part really topping off the cake. Nite Owl was a good solid character that definitely made me picture of a Spiderman type hero. I'm amazed they touched on the subjects of the rape and also the killing of the Vietnamese girl. Also the brief 5 mins of the movie showing the Minute Men was a great add.
In the end, although the ending is different in some ways from the comic this movie does show how Superhero movies should be made. The Dark Knight is nice but, it also has problems with having a superhero who can be very difficult to understand. A+ |
