After reading many reviews, I have come to the conclusion that critics are biased against anything they don't relate to and thus is the case with Van Helsing. Critics tend to over analyze things that movie goers don't care about such as some of the details in Van Helsing. One critic went so far as to say that this movie rips off classic characters when it was not about that to begin with. It was about trying to enjoy the presence of the characters, use them and put a combo in there for a staggering what "IF" that you would have never seen in the heyday of monster films. So what if the werewolf doesn't do what YOU want him to as a critic? So what if Dracula would or would not do something based on what you think the original author of the character intended? Again, I believe that critics spend more time looking at things based on what WAS and are disconnected with what movie goers look for now. The younger generation of film watchers are attracted by action and adrenaline based conflicts and just because something is not as "classic" as it SHOULD be according to again YOU the critic then why is it thrown out or cast down as trash?

Because quite simply being a critic is not about protecting the dollar of the consumer, its about pushing a personal agenda that doesn't wash anymore with people. Consumers like to think for themselves and there will be FAR more people pleased with Van Helsing than those against it? I can stand here and predict right now that the movie more than likely will take one of the top three spots this weekend for sales if not number one so what has a critic got on that? Nothing. To hear the spewing hatred for anything of the horror genre or sci fi or fantasy and then to turn around and give high ranks to anything that is sappy or a love story proves right there critics are just to isolated in their own views that DON'T reflect the populous of the people who watch these movies. A consumer goes to see a movie based on having a good time expecting the best, a critic goes to it already with a negative mindset in the first place and most critics get to watch the movies without PAYING for them in the first place so they get the best of both worlds getting PAID to slam a movie and not even spending money in the first place and then build a career on trying to form opinions based on a 1950's view of movies! I say enjoy Van Helsing for what it is, a modern day based story with, proper action and even if its filled with less dialogue from the lead role, face it, the story works!

A critic can't base the main character on anything and can't base him on anything that relates to what they are used to seeing, they don't know who Van Helsing is supposed to be so they can't compare him to anyone and this leaves a critic to have to make his own idea of the guy and that is why they slam Hugh Jackman. Don't get bogged down in other roles because that is what an actor DOES he is NOT the same guy in each film because he's not supposed to be. If Hugh Jackman were standing there trying to cry his way through the film in some steamy scene of drama going into his life then YEAH the critics would love it. Yet, remember guys EVERY single cross-eyed DETAIL does not have to be covered for a movie to be enjoyed! Why is this and WHY is that? Did you ask the same questions of Monsters Ball when Halle Berry was a piece of meat on the screen then? She gets a oscar for doing nothing more than what we see in almost EVERY movie out there involving interest between romantic interludes? Not to slam Mrs. Berry here but you get my point. Action films are NOT about trying to act like shakespeare, they are about ACTION and the people like me who saw Van Helsing are not here looking for a Mr. Hollands Opus, or a Finding Forrester, or Good Will Hunting, we are here to watch stuff get broken, people get knocked over and quite frankly some good old fashioned arse kicking! So if you are not into that then DON'T go see Van Helsing but if you are and you are looking for what you came for then Van Helsing is a great ride and you will more than likely go for a second trip. There, I have said my peace America!!
