For those people looking for a good non-stop action summer movie this is a great way to kick off the summer. Of course if you are reading this review you know this movie features the most popular movie villians of all time with Dracula,The Werewolf and Frankenstiens monster and a few of dracula's brides thrown in for good measure.
This movie really has a very thin plot so I really won't give much of the movie's story line away. The basic story line is that Dracula is searching for Frankenstien's monster because he needs him to help him create an army of Vampires.Enter Van Helsing.Van goes off to Transylvania to stop Dracula from spreading his evil and to ultimately kill him but Dracula has a few pals to help him that include The Wolfman and his brides.
Like I said the storyline is thin so i'll stop there.This is a good popcorn movie. It has action from begining to end and will definately delight action fans. This really is NOT a horror movie so don't expect one. This is an all out action flick with 'horror elements'. The acting is fairly decent and the guy who plays Dracula is pretty good. Jackman is his typical self and the lovely Kate Beckinsale is hot!
The CGI in the movie I thought are fairly weak.After seeing the CGI in movies like Attack of the Clones and Return of the King I guess this does seem rather weak in my eyes.The CGI does however get the job done but don't expect to much visual flair.The other visuals such as props and other special effects are outstanding but this will not win any special effect awards.Think of the CGI in 'The Mummy' and you'll have a fairly decent idea of the GCI.
If you are a fan of summer action movies this is the perfect movie for you. It's a non stop action fest.If you go into the movie thinking 'oscars' you will be disappointed. Overall the movie is entertaining and will appeal to action fans and fans of horror movies. Just sit back and enjoy your popcorn,candy and drink with a friend and enjoy the action of Van Helsing. |
