it's always a bad sign when the (cough, cough) PROFESSIONALS don't even get the details right.
the mortgage owed is $750, NOT $1000. there is no mention of a "local meat-packing plant". there is no "herd" of cows; there are two family cows (grace and mrs. calloway) who have JUST been joined by the show cow maggie who has lost HER former farm to the depredation of the villianous alameda slim. the horse is not "the family horse" but the SHERRIF'S horse.
sheesh. look, it's no "beauty and the beast"--the quintessential disney animation that got it ALL right. it's a decent film with several laugh-out-loud lines, some cute plot twists (think jimmy cagney at one point--i'm not going to spoil it), bouncy enough if less than memorable lyrics, and a feel-good finale.
the kids who made up the audience at the local theater ADORED it; the parents were happy, and so far we haven't been inundated with product tie-ins. what more can a person ask for?
how about a little respect, huh? yeah, it's disney and the fashion these days is to sneer at disney. to sneer at tradition, at simplicity, at anything that's not shock-rated. look, i'll rail at BAD KIDDIE MOVIES when they ARE bad--think of that abomination "the cat in the hat". . .but this one is cute and more importantly it's actually done at a half-way decent pace so your kids won't be hyped out, frenetic, or torpid. so take the little ones and enjoy something that's NOT going to have your metabolic rate either in cardiac overload or else nearly catatonic. you'll be glad you did.
and for the love of the great god jehovah and the continental congress, will the powers that be PLEASE, PLEASE find reviewers who KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT and can be ACCURATE? surely that's not too much to ask. if you are PAYING these brain dead poseurs, STOP. make them pay YOU until they can get it right. |
