A group of friends and I went to see this movie together. Our group was part of the 50% of the audience laughing until we cried throughout this film - part of the 50% who appreciated and found this movie to be hysterical beyond words.
We're all in our 30s, and remember the 70s well. What made this movie great for us is the way in which it is presented - the 70s, straight-up and unadulterated - sublime in its absurdity, its over-the-top fashions, disco dance-offs, and police brutality, mentally juxtaposed with society today.
Is this movie for everyone? I think not. For those who are used to slick, formulaic, hit-you-over-the-head comedy... for those who didn't grow up thinking police interrogation room brutality and The Hustle were once part of the norm... will not appreciate the bulk of this movie.
For those of us who did, bon appetit - you won't find a better movie today. |
