The decision on whether to go to this movie is basically this: if you like the Simpsons on TV, you'll love the movie. If you don't like the Simpsons, you have no reason to go.

I am a big fan of the show and I can say that the film does not disappoint. I laughed out loud just as I do when I watch the show on television.

The strength of the movie, as with the show, is not the brilliant story line as much as it's what is said and done within the framework of that story line. I could probably tell you the entire plot and not ruin any of the movie for you.

Homer does something truly thoughtless indicating he is oblivious to everyone but himself, including Marge. As a result of his thoughtlessness, the town of Springfield is to be destroyed. Only Homer is left to save the town from its horrible fate that he initiated through his own actions. It's a funny premise, but one the show has used before. As usual, the real laughs are in the dialogue.

My concerns as a fan going into the movie were that the filmmakers might try to fit in too many guest celebrities or that an attempt would be made to have each and every character the Simpson audience has gotten to know and love get an equal amount of laughs. Neither happens. The focus is on the Simpson family and the other characters are fit in perfectly without a sense of being forced into the story. The only guest stars are Green Day, Tom Hanks and Albert Brooks, who has been on the show very often.

At the core of the film is the story that Homer is a moron, who will eventually, albeit temporarily, learn his lesson because he will come to the realization that he loves Marge. Without Marge, Homer would be Barney.

I recommend the film to all fans of the Simpsons. It is like a longer, PG-13 version of a really good episode of the show. Of course, this might mean you're less inclined to pay $9.50 to see beacuse as Homer says at theater where his family is watching an Itchy and Scratchy movie, "What kind of idiot would pay to see something they can watch for free?" And there it is, Homer making fun of his audience, classic Simpsons.
