2 years ago, I saw RENT on Broadway at the Nederlander. I was amazed. The music, the visuals, the amazing acting. It instantly became on of my favorite shows of all time. When I heard there was going to be a movie i was ecstatic. Knowingly, the adaptations of shows normally aren't as good as teh stage production, I checked out as much of the behind-the-scenes stuff as i could and thought maybe this will be a good one. Well, I was right. This story about a group of friends coping with life, showed me how life should be lived. When I saw teh movie, I felt the same feeling that I did in the Nederlander. I felt the feeling of true happiness and knowing that life should be lived to its fullest. It changed me and I felt the same feeling i did 2 years ago. Original actors from the show were casted and that was a wise decision.
Adam Pascal, who was robbed of the Tony, had an Oscar- Winning performance as Roger, the role he played in the original broadway show. His singing is superb and has a solo album out called Civilian if you are interested. THe rest of the cast, Anthony Rapp, Idina Menzel, Rosario Dawson, Tracie Toms, Jesse L. Martin, and the ensemble did an eccelent job also and made me feel like i was watching the show, though you can't replicate the passion of the musical.
Chris Columbus was an excellent choice for director. He made me feel like I was there with the gang living life and getting through their hard times with AIDS and well life.
This is the greatest movie you will have seen in a while and maybe forever. I know it is mine. This show changed me and I hope it will change you as a person too. This show is now a part of me. No day but today! |
