I have been a RENThead since first seeing the Broadway play four years ago. I can sing all the songs on cue, know everything about the characters and the play itself. I own the RENT Orignal Broadway Cast Recording which I still cry during.
So when I found out a year and a half ago that they were making RENT the movie I was a little hesitant to see it. I didn't want it to ruin the Broadway play. I bought the movie soundtrack and was happy, but somewhat dissappointed that they took out and changed songs. Needless to say, my friend got screening tickets and decided to take me.
What can I say? I cried. Hard. It is a beautiful movie, very well done. The acting is incredible, you actually feel your heart breaking. This movie has Oscar written all over it. I believe it is done better than other stage-to-movies such as Chiagco and The Phantom of the Opera.
And I live you with these words of wisdom from Jonathan Larsen (the writer of RENT):
"The heart may freeze, or it can burn, the pain will ease, if I can learn. There is no future, there is no past, I live each moment as my last."
