I saw this film at a sneak preview on Tuesday, 3 days before release. After I stepped out of the theater, I was positive that this movie would get praise and terrific reviews. It HAD to get good reviews. The movie ROCKED! But, once again, I was wrong. The critics, whom I seldom think are accurate with their ratings, have given this movie an average of a C. What is wrong with this? Many things. First of all, this movie has all of the elements that makes a good action sci-fi movie a good movie. Vin makes this movie. No other actor could fit into his character. (also, he was Riddick in Pitch Black). His one-liners, which some critics claim were "groanish", were actually some of the funniest one-liners I have heard. Coming from his mouth, with his macho attitude and over-confidence, these lines fit right into his personality. The fight scenes, though a little chaotic, were very intense and, to some extent, "matrix-like". And what I mean be chaotic is that the camera moves around alot, not letting you see some of the kicks, stabs and takedowns. However, that only occurred really in one scene. And I must say that the plot was one of the most creative plots I have scene in a long while, despite what the critics may have said about it. I mean, basically, one murderer is being hunted down by bountyhunters, but at the same time, this murderer gets involved with a plot where a group called the Necromongers are trying to convert everyone to their faith or they shall die. There is a few other sub-plots, I guess, but you should really just wait to see the movie, for it is a little hard to explain. Also, for the guys who want to see this film...that little girl from Pitch Black that everyone thought was a boy? Ya, she is back, too. And she is hotter and more deadly than ever! She kicks some major butt in this film, right along side Riddick in some cases. Did I mention she is really good looking? Well, that is all I can say about this movie. Honestly, there is fighting action throughout the entire movie to keep you interested, and just the right amount of humor and plot-detailing to keep the film from becoming like most science fiction films nowadays. Go see this film and be prepared for the ride of your summer! |
