Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato have done it again! PARTY MONSTER is a titilating, cautionary tale of self-indulgent club kids gone wild. Macaulay Culkin as the infamous Michael Alig is in top form, however, it is Seth Green that steals the show. His portrayal of James St. James is an Oscar-caliber stand-out. Also, it was great seeing the under-rated Diana Scarwid (Christina Crawford in Mommie Dearest) playing Alig's ecstasy popping mother. The audience at the sold-out screening I attended gave the film a an enthusiastic ovation. Don't let me mislead you, PARTY MONSTER does have its share of flaws, but like a disaster (with all its repulsive ugliness) on the news, it's hard to pull your eyes from it. |
