I was first in line for "Master and Commander" and I have to admit that as much as I liked it I was somewhat disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I would see it again and I think that everyone who is a fan of time pieces and action/adventure will be happy with it, but the movie was billed as "Gladiator" on the open seas and it just is not even close. Tough comparison I know, but I didn't make it the producers did. Although it has a clear direction, it often deviates in "rudderless" ways from the storyline leaving the viewer wondering why they even went there. More clear direction on the goal would have served well. Also, the climactic sword battle scene is tough to watch with the constant camera angles changing so often to keep the PG-13 rating that you miss most of the action. |
