Ray Wise (SWAMP THING) goes after the creeper after he takes his young son in a corn field, the two confront each other on a lonely stretch of highway where a group of teenagers are stranded in a broken down school bus.
The creeper, smiles, winks, at his intended victims.
I wasn't aware until after the movie that the director was convicted on pedophile charges, (had I known, I probably wouldn't have paid to see it, therein inadvertantly supporting the director's career) but during the movie, I wondered why so many shots of buff teenage boys walking around without their shirts on, urinating side by side.
The story even confronts racism, homophobia, both topics out of place in the genre.
I thought the first installment was more inventive and suspenseful, in the first the intended victims were trying to outrun the creature, here they are stranded.
The story picks up 4 days after the last movie, and the ending sets up another installment.
When the angry father finally comes face to face with the creeper (who doesn't creep, he flies!!!) the movie picks up steam.
Plenty of gore, and some decent F/X, the young blonde psychic, reminded me of Reese Witherspoon.
The young boy taken in the first one, makes a cameo appearance, as he tries to warn the teenagers.
The characters make some illogical moves, but that's par for the course for this genre.
My issues with the director aside, the movie is fast paced, has some spooky moments, or at least the young ladies screaming in the audience thought so.
You might be disappointed, as with most sequels, it isn't quite as entertaining as the first.
For a solid movie, you might prefer "SWAT"/"ITALIAN JOB"/"OPEN RANGE", at least they're all 3 solid entries in ther genre field. |
