The Coen brothers know how to direct actors. No question. They've been very successful with Clooney who is otherwise a bit straight and boring. Here, like with Brother Where Art Thou?, Clooney captures a quirkiness not found anywhere outside a Coen Bro's picture. From Raising Arizona to their present attempts, their sense of humor is what makes them difficult to categorize and difficult to not enjoy.
Cruelty also has a quick back-and-forth dialogue that keeps you chuckling while the bigger jokes are building. Well-directed, strong performances and a good bone tickler. |
