I'll start by say this was a great way to re-introduce Indiana Jones after 19 years, in the 50s, with an AWESOME take on the origin of the crystal skulls of the Amazons. This is why, however, I rarely ever read reviews before seeing a movie. I swear, some of these "fans", who've spent months blogging about it, I'm sure, literally flipped out at the first hint of special effects or aliens. Yeah the ending is a little over the top, but it's totally an homage to b-movie 50's sci-fi, and why not? He doesn't have to go back to Egypt or Germany, or maybe people would have been happier if he'd just spent the whole movie in the warehouse trying to sneak the ark out...Indiana Jones and the Warehouse that Holds the Ark! I really thought it was an awesome movie...the first half rocked, totally vintage Indiana Jones. The second half was great too, but if you're not open to this ultimately being a sci-fi type premise, then you may be disappointed. Indiana Jones is a character, and Harrison Ford, Shia LaBeouf, Ray Winstone, Cate Blanchett, John Hurt, etc. did an awesome job. There's a ton of great moments, moments that will remind you of the fun of the first 3 movies. People are mainly having a problem with the fact that the film travels into the realm of sci-fi....and to me, sci-fi is a great genre, and Indiana Jones doesn't have to be relegated completely to one genre. Sci-fi also requires some sp-efx!! In regards to the few scenes where disbelief should seriously be suspended...it's adventure, and it's almost impossible (even for super-traditional Spielberg) to completely escape that today. I'd rather put up with a little of that than not have Indy on the big screen again at all. Just relax, people, enjoy the fact the Indy is out on another adventure...it's fresh and an awesome take on what some people even today feel could be the origin of those legendary crystal skulls. I'll be there again on Friday!! |
