Original and Engaging (despite an annoying ending)

From its opening moments when the film has John Cusack's character doing things you certainly wouldn't have expected, to the gradual unfolding of the plot that follows, this film is a freshly original murder mystery. John Cusack's character is definitely the most enjoyable and well-developed, and he does an excellent job in the role, but the movie is not without problems--other characters are not as developed (which is a minor complaint), and the final two minutes are disappointing (which is a larger complaint). Depending on how you like your murder mysteries to end, that is. If you're looking for closure, this movie doesn't give it, but opts instead for a startling but ultimately campy finish. Ignore the loose threads, though, and this is still something worth seeing. |
