Strong performances in a good story...

"The Human Stain" is undoubtably well-acted; all three of the leads (Hopkins, Kidman and Harris) give brilliant performances in this dark tale of a teacher having an affair with the janitor. The controversy faced by Hopkins seems relatively displaced; the accusations of racism against him seem like they're about to go into deeper depths but eventually get overthrown by his illustrious affair with Kidman. While the director gives a worthy dive into the field of direction, the overall mood of the movie doesn't seem to live up to the hype it has received. Those looking for a perfect film will be disappoined -- however, those looking for an excellent time away from the current horror-driven marquees, "Stain" is sure to satisfy your pallet. |
