...this wasn't that funny. It had a bunch of funny lines, but it was TOO preposterous. Chris Rock, a Wash DC alderman, gets picked to run by party leadership in order to lose the election and set up the party chair to run in 4 years.
Then Chris Rock transforms from a semi-decent alderman into a Jay-Z (rapper) wanna be with diamond earings and chains and he somehow gains popularity? Old stuffy fogeys start throwing down when Rock starts playing rap at a fundraiser. Yeah, sure. Grandma gets jiggy. Yeah, a candidate can goto the "Player's Ball" with gangsters, pimps, and hoes, and get elected? Sure.
Bernie Mac, who played his brother and running mate, dressed and acted like a pimp. Yeah, they're going to win an election. Bernie Mac, who's performance in Ocean's 11 was hillarious and has a funny show on TV, was surprising not that funny.
If Chris Rock and Bernie Mack didn't ghetto out as much, then it could have been more plausible. Some candidate that just 'told it like it is' instead of adding in the Jay-Z/ R. Kelly imitation would have been better. However, it was SO unplausible it didn't allow you to enjoy the movie as much. Nonetheless there were several funny lines, but not quite enough. |
