I loved the first two films- I was surprised by the fact that everything looked just as I imagined it.
NOT the case with POA. In fact, it looked like a whole different castle altogether. Everything was not where we left it-I felt disoriented.
Now, I understand that every beloved detail of POA cannot be included in the film, but come on! The hundereds of people walking out of the theater could all be heard mumbling "Why didn't they include this and that?" And if you see the film, you'll understand. Ten extra minutes of beloved bits of the story would have made a world of difference. Instead, Curon thinks it more prudent to include his ridiculous (no pun intended) shrunked heads.
The cast and crew have been saying that the film is much darker but not only in theme but actual color as well. I understand that the story is scarier but these dark shots were only appropriate in certain scenes, they were irritating to see throughout because it does not convey the spirit of Hogwarts.
Okay, bottom line is- too many liberties were taken with the story. Events do not unfold like they did in the book. Too much effort was put into making the movie more grown up when the story and physical growth and maturity of the actors could have accomplished that on their own. I would not take children under 8 to see this film.
But to be kind- excellent acting by the leads. Please WB never replace them! Mike Newell, I'm giving you a year and half to bring us a film that gets back to the place and people know and love because it was nowhere to be found in POA. |
