I won't bore you with one of those "well I didn't like this" and "I didn't like that" reviews. I'll just give you the facts. The Exorcist has a slow begining. It takes a while to get going. Seems like it's trying to create atmosphere, but no. The lead role was played well. The story was quite good, and well thought out. Three things ruin this film. The first is the film's over used tactic to make us jump. Sure, I jumped. I was startled by a few scenes. But I was never scared. It was as though the director knew the film lacked anything scary or horrific, so he threw in some suprise scenes to make us jump instead. The second failure of this film is the use of evil dogs to scare us. It takes away from story, and causes the audience to focus on the menacing dogs. Finally, why can't Hollywood stay away from digital effects? They are cheap and unrealistic. There's a lot to learn from the original Exorcist and other films from that time. They used organic/tangable effects. These classic effects are far more impressive than a computer monster coming to get us. Would someone please deliver a horror film that scares people...PLEASE?! |
