I for one liked this movie quite a bit. I thought it was about 100 times better than most of the craptastic horror movies released in the past few years. (In America, at least.) It had a great story, great acting, skilled direction, and lots of eye-candy. Plus, it was scary, which is really the whole point of a horror movie. Now, don't expect the kind of disturbing, nightmare-inducing scares of the original. This is nowhere near as effective in the scares deparment. But not many movies are, compared to the orinigal "Exorcist." Nonetheless, there are plenty of scares and moments of suspense that will definitely have you on the edge of your seat. I have a couple of complaints, but nothing major. First, although the visuals were great, I think there was a little too much CGI used, which made some sequences look a little bit fake. (Not a lot, just a tiny little bit if you're really looking.) Second, there was a plot twist that, although exciting, seemed a bit inconsistent with some previous scenes. But maybe I just need to see it again to get some clarity. Besides these (very) minor points, I loved the movie. Again: Don't expect this to be up there with the original, but instead take it for the enjoyable and often scary backstory to the classic we all know and fear. |
