How did this get labeled a thriller?

This movie is not a 'thriller'. It's a drama, and not much else. It's also a very good one at that. This is the kind of movie that I could go 6 months without seeing one as good as it. I hope not, though.
Story: A- = Almost perfect
:The story is interesting enough to keep the movie flowing when there's not much onscreen action.
Acting: A+ = Oscar-worthy
:The acting really couldn't be any better. All I've read is how great Tom Cruise played a bad guy. Who cares? He played his role superbly, and almost as well as Jamie Foxx. Their work creates the feeling that you have a personal relationship with the characters. Watching the movie was almost scary becuase I felt like I was watching two friends. I'll definately associate Cruise and Foxx with their characters in the movie. They've essentially rewrote themselves by portraying someone else so well.
Direction: A = Outstanding
:The direction is great. The movie is, simply put, appealing. The best part of the direction is evident in the visuals (coming up).
Visual: A+ = Oscar-worthy
:I understand this movie is not going to win an Oscar for its visuals, but they could not be any better. I'd compare them to Gattaca.
Overall: A+ = Oscar-worthy
:This is not the kind of movie I'd traditionally like. But I did like it. A lot. It stunned me with amazement. When I read movie reviews I see the same speal (spelling?) over and over, making every movie seem the same. But this movie is different. It's not another stupid chick flick (there are only like 10 good ones) or horror movie (ditto) or half-assed attempt at an action movie. This is quality entertainment. It doesn't get much better. |
