It is rather interesting to read some of the reviews that were submitted by those who claim this film is horrible. In reading these reviews, I discovered that most of them have horrible grammar and a complete lack of reasoning behind their claims. Why was this Crowe's worst movie ever? What do you mean that the setting sucked? Etc, etc, etc. Maybe these reviews would be more helpful if they explained their reasons a little better. I personally believe that these reviews were written by those who have (in my opinion, of course) no taste in movies.
Anyways, in general, I absolutely loved this film. It was great on every level -- acting, location, plot. I have never cared much for Crowe in the past, but recently, after seeing "A Beautiful Mind", and after this film, I have a whole new respect for his acting. Renee Z. was superb and very believeable as Jim's wife. I think myself, along with the audience, was as troubled and worried about Jim in the ring as she was during the film. Paul G. played a spectacular role as Jim's trainer--considerate to Jim when he needs to be, but real tough and competitive once Jim is inside the ring. The location and settings of the streets, apartments, etc. were designed very well. They made me feel right at home as if I were presently living during that time.
This film will make you chuckle at times, but will also make you cringe during the fights. It will make you smile, but also is powerful enough to make you cry. This film has all the elements that make an Oscar worthy film, and I will be extremely disappointed if Cinderella Man goes unnoticed when the awards are handed out. A must see for all ages! |
