This movie is without a doubt first and foremost about the indomnable spirit of James Braddock, and his heart and determination in keeping his family together.....It is less a movie about boxing, and more a movie about quiet desparation....the kind of desparation that was felt by too many people during the depression...
The characters are all well develeoped, with Crowe and Giamatti giving Oscar winning performances...I thought that Zelwegger was a bit muted, but she did fit in well...Hats off to Ron Howard, who kept this movie nice and simple...just the way it really was back in the depression era.
It is a movie that will really make a person appreciate all that he or she has...
If you are a parent..it is a guarantee that the first 45 minutes of this movie will have you weeping...
The rest of this movie is.......well, its an instant piece of American folk lore, and will take its place among some of the great movies of all time. |
