An Epic and Ambitious Film Project

No matter what one's opinion on this film might be, everyone can agree that just the sheer task of making this film is one of immense proportions. This film is as ambitious as it gets. I saw it as two two-hour films with a fifteen minute intermission in LA and I'm glad I had the chance to experience them in that manner.

THE ACTING: Incredible all around. Not until I was almost done viewing the last part did it even hit me that Del Toro was doing an amazing job in acting and not Che himself. I've read books on Che and I feel that Del Toro captured Che's discipline, his quest for liberation, and his determination to succeed...even if it ultimately meant his own death.

THE CINEMATOGRAPHY: This is not your typical Hollywood blockbuster movie...the events depicted seemed real throughout. I have to hand it to Soderbergh for committing to this project and for having a vision. People who want to see your typical Hollywood film filled with bombs and explosions at the expense of a good story will be disappointed, but anyone who wants to see a film that tries to stay true to a major historical figure and important world events will not be let down by this film.

THE DIRECTING: Really, really good. I realize that directors have to make choices and I would have liked to see a few events and ideas fleshed out (like how Che perfected his Foco theory of fighting) but I realize that the film would have gone on much longer.

THE MUSIC: Great. It didn't get in the way of the film; Instead, it complemented the action.

I would recommend that people watch The Motorcycle Diaries if they get a chance to before watching the new Soderbergh Che films if they want to understand how Che became politicized and why he decided to join revolutionary struggles.

DON'T MISS CHE!
