Excellent! Stays true to the book!

Back in the 60's, each evening my brother, two sisters and I would gather around my Mom in her bed, and she would read us a chapter of Charlie and the Chocolate Factor. I adored this book when I was a child. I SO looked forward to the movie when it came out in the 70's, and I was SO, SO disappointed when I saw it way back then. They CHANGED Charlie's character, the Oompa Loompas were this hideous orange, and the movie had that ghastly song, "Candyman"! Ugh. It's beyond me why people think the 70's movie was good.
Anyway, when I heard that Johnny Depp was going to be in the new Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, I was very excited. I think he's a wonderful actor. However, when I saw the previews, he looked VERY creepy, and I wasn't even sure I wanted to see the movie! I'm so glad I did though because it's SO MUCH better than the 70's movie ever was. Charlie's character stays true to the book, the Oompa Loompas are very close to how they were depicted in the book, and no more "Candyman"! Johnny Depp's Wonka gets better and better as the movie progresses, and he's really not like the previews portray.
Anyway, in MY opinion, this new version of the movie is the TRUE ORIGINAL. I highly recommend it! |
