For the person who has a relationship with Jesus, and believes in God, this movie has so many deep references to the Bible and the teachings of the Lord. To those who like the antics presented in the previews, the references may spur some thoughts of how special God treats us. It could encourage them to see the path that God wants for us all...to follow Him. Bruce epitomizes the selfish tendencies of mortal man, as he 'rights a few wrongs' in his life with the power he receives from the Lord. He presents the age old dilemma, as he encounters the same with his girlfriend..."How can you make someone love you, without affecting their free will?" This is the battle that the Lord has been facing for all of time. Jennifer Aniston does a superb job, as the girlfriend, Grace, this name itself is an analogy to the wonderful gift we receive with deserving it and without cost...all we have to do is love God and accept Him as 'The One and Only.' Morgan Freeman also plays his part, as God, to perfection, with his amused reactions, followed by his stern revelations when Bruce gets out control. The language and colorful actions, like blowing the pretty girl's skirt up, could be offensive to some, but again, it illustrates the immoral side of man which in the end, can be purified by the decision to accept the Lord as Savior. The climax, when Bruce realizes and verbalizes, that he truly wants Grace to be happy, regardless of her choice, with or without him, is a vision of man taking his eyes off of himself and putting them on others. That is the true act of love. Enjoy the laughs, and see the deeper meaning as you read you Bible. George Mayes |
