I won't remember The Alamo....

This a loooong drawn-out film that takes forever to get to what we all wanted to see. You are forced to listen to speech after speech and story after story about each character and why they are at the Alamo.
By the time the actual attack started, I felt so drained that I no longer really cared and I just wanted the movie to hurry to an ending. I had no problem with the casting and Dennis Quaid and Billy Bob Thornton actually were very believeable. The biggest problem for me was that I didn't really care about the characters defending the Alamo and when they got wiped out at the end I felt no emotion.
After seeing films like Troy and Lord of the Rings, the bar has been raised when it comes to large scale battles and for me this movie just didn't measure up.
It may be worth renting if you are a history buff, there is certainly a lot of dialogue if that sort of thing interests you. Pearl Harbor wasn't a great film, but as far as historical disasters go, its definitely a more entertaining film then this was. |
