Interesting, Well Made Documentary

The Late 1960's and early to mid 70's was a turning point in the history of modern motion picture. The films of that era are some of the best and most relevent films ever made and they were made by young, up and coming directors and actors and poduced by independent studios. This is the subject of A Decade Under the Influence, an excellent documentary featuring many interviews with directors and stars who produced memorable films of that era and also features an array of unedited film clips which are a delight to watch.A definite must see for film buffs and even for those with a passing interest in film and cinema history. The interviews are candid and revealing and the film clips are especially fun to watch. Interesting at every turn and compelling, the film is cut into three episodes for DVD, each exploring a different subject with relevence to the topic.Interviews with Directors William Friedkin (The Exorcist) and Francis Ford Coppola are especially interesting, not to mention Martin Scorsese and Peter Bogdanovich as well. Actors such as Ellen Burstyn, Clint Eastwood, Jon Voight and Sissy Spacek are also featured. The insights here certainly ring true and help to account for the change in content of the movies that came out after 1965 in the United States. These emerging films reflected a shift in what moviegoers wanted to see and also what was going on at the time, because of course it was a tumultuous time period. This remarkable documentary also sheds light on why the modern films of today seem to be of diminishing quality. This is truly a captivating piece of work and I wouldn't have minded seeing more. I highly reccomend checking this out. Look under 'Special Interest' at your local video store. |
