What lies beneath.

I went to this movie with my son and his best friend as more or less a fatherly duty. I figured I endure a standard zombie / slasher piece of nonsense for the sake of the lads. I was taken totally by surprise. This film is an intricately woven trip through the Bible - from Exodus to the New Testament - with dozens of clever metaphors hidden just beneath the veneer of a standard end-of-the-world story line. It also pays homage to the Odessey and other Greek myths. I had a great time trying to spot the story under the story. It actually engaged your mind. The audience hated it. I was expecting buckets of blood splashed across the screen, and so were they. To their disappointment (and my delight) none of us got what we thought. |
