A slowly building horror/thriller

We're told that a disease makes people crazy and homicidal, and yet, these infected individuals don't kill each other. Furthermore, without food or water, they can sustain much action apparently through adrenaline alone. But, overanalyzing a horror flick about "reality" isn't usually a good thing to do, but to sit back and get scared, right? However, for most of this film, I wouldn't call it scary, but we are introduced to the characters and the harsh realities they now live in. Near the end of this film, there is quite a bit of action and some suspense, but some of the more heroic actions seem a bit unusual given the lack of character development on that front. Perhaps that's the point, that in extreme situations, anyone can tell the difference between right and wrong and what we can do about it, regardless of our background. On a side note, I was surprised by the number of children in the theater. I should warn parents that there is a lot of blood, violence, male nudity (front and back) and adult content in this film. Add to this a lot of "silent" time in the first half of the film, and one can be easily distracted by comments from those in the audience. I would think twice about bringing kids to this film. Overall, I rated this a B-, mainly because I liked the story (B, not an A because of the inconsistencies), decent acting (B) from people I've never seen before. I gave direction a B because of the somewhat slow start to the film. Visuals were a C. They could have done more on visuals, but that's typical of a low-budget film. |
